What is PTZ Camera?

PTZ is an acronym for pan, tilt, and zoom. Featuring a professional camera head mounted on a robotic arm, multiple PTZ cameras can be remotely controlled by a single operator. Their ability to zoom, swivel and tilt, and move smoothly from position to position makes them suitable for use in live events, multi-camera studios, lecture capture, and conference production. Virtually silent, robotic cameras can be discreetly placed in almost any location and integrated into the video, broadcast, and AV installations. 

How do I control a PTZ camera?

As standard, Lumens PTZ cameras support multiple control protocols including VISCA, VISCA over IP, NDI, Pelco and ONVIF. Cameras can be controlled natively using Lumens hardware controllers or an easy-to-use web interface. 
Lumens PTZ cameras also integrate with 3rd party control systems, production software and AV controllers, such as:
•    Production Software: vMix, OBS Studio, Wirecast, Livestream Studio, mimoLive, Tricaster
•    AV control systems: Crestron, Extron, AMX
•    Control surfaces: Skaarhoj, Elgato

Software Control

As IP-connected devices, PTZ cameras can be controlled by computers and third-party devices running supported applications including:

•    Lumens control software: VMS gives you the ability to control multiple PTZ cameras in software
•    Bridging software: Virtual Camera, OBS plugin, Companion Module, seamlessly integrate PTZ cameras with third-party technologies such as Zoom, Teams, Elgato Stream Deck, and OBS Studio.

Mounting and Installing PTZ Cameras

Like camcorders, PTZ cameras can be placed on tripods and camera poles. They can also be easily installed on desktops, plinths, trussing, walls and ceilings. Upright or inverted, PTZ cameras are ultra-flexible when it comes to mounting options.
